America’s largest fashion retailer has about 32,500 locations worldwide and employs over 130,000 people. Each store carries one of their fashion brands, which include Old Navy, Banana Republic, Athleta, Piperlime, and Gap. The company is constantly looking for new employees. But, while finding an opening is a no brainer, figuring out the Gap job application process can be quite a headache.

Gap General Career Info

In most states, you can find over 300 local career opportunities listed on the official Gap Inc. website. However, all of them can be split into four main categories:

#1 – Store Stock Staff
This category includes all in-store positions with the exception of management. Generally, they’re best suited for someone looking for an entry-level opportunity or even a first job, such as Stock Person, Sales Associate and Shift Supervisor.

#2 – Store Management
Middle and upper store management positions are also constantly available. As the name suggests, this category includes job titles like Assistant Manager, Associate Manager, and Retail District Manager.

#3 – Distribution
Distribution centers require employees of all experience levels. There are only five such centers in the U.S. But, if you live in one of the cities listed below, this is the first place where you should send your Gap job application.

#4 – Corporate
Enterprise-level positions are rare, but there are always at least a few corporate openings available. Unfortunately, the only U.S.-based Gap Inc. offices are the San Francisco headquarters and a Shared Services Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Gap Job Application Guide

The company website may seem a bit confusing at first but, if you know what you’re doing, you can easily complete the Gap job application in 20-30 minutes.

To start, go to the Gap Inc. Careers website. Choose your location and language, but make sure to choose Gap or Gap Inc. in the third drop-down menu. On the next page, narrow down your location by entering your state. After you click ‘Search’, you’ll see all the open positions in your area.

Simply narrow down your options by selecting your city and desired job status from the drop-down menu on the left side of your screen. For the job status, you should choose either Full-Time or Part-Time, unless you’re looking for a temporary seasonal position.

Next, click the ‘Category’ menu and select every option that may be a good fit for your resume. If you’re not sure about a category, include it to see specific job titles associated with it. After you choose your categories, the list of vacancies should be narrowed down to 30-50 results.

Browse these results until you find a fitting vacancy. Then, click it to see a full description. If your resume fulfills all the listed Requirements, you can move on to the online Gap job application. To do that, just press ‘Apply’ and you’ll be taken to a Login page. Register as a new user by entering your desired User Name and Password and clicking the ‘New User’ button.

Finally, follow along with the short sign-up form and attach your resume. If you plan to apply for other positions, you won’t need to fill out the same Gap job application again. Just log in, choose a vacancy and click ‘Apply’.

Gap Job Openings

Sales Associate

Though candidates with previous experience are always preferred, this entry-level position requires nothing but enthusiasm and a positive attitude.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer support.
  • Foster a unique brand experience by asking open-ended questions and suggesting relevant products.
  • Stay updated on all the latest product knowledge.
  • Help customers find items that are out of stock at the store but available online or on back-order.
  • Increase sales by offering genuine advice to customers.

Requirements
Any Gap job application requires you to have proof of employment authorization and to be at least 16 years old. However, if you are 21 or older, you have a much better shot at the job. Likewise, some college education is a plus, though it’s not required.

Employees are expected to stay on their feet all throughout their shift and carry up to 30 pounds of merchandise. Lastly, an ability to learn from feedback/criticism is required to learn salesmanship, which is an essential skill of a Sales Associate.

Working Hours & Salary Information:
The schedule and your working hours are different each week. You might have to work nights or weekends upon request.

The salary of entry-level Gap employees varies widely depending on the state. On average, a Sales Associate makes $11 per hour. If you’re a full-time employee, you become eligible for vacation time and health benefits. Plus, you receive 150% compensation for overtime (more than 40 hours per week).

Loss Prevention Service Representative

In simple terms, this is a security guard position.

Responsibilities:

  • Help ensure the physical security of the store.
  • Maintain a presence near the exit.
  • If asked for assistance, help LP personnel handle apprehensions.
  • Prevent theft by communicating with the staff and spreading Loss Prevention Awareness.

Requirements
All candidates must be at least 21 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED. Loss Prevention Representatives must also have adequate communication skills and the ability to think on their feet.
Gap Inc. gives preference to applicants who have state certification and those with over a year of experience in the retail industry.

Working Hours & Salary Information
The work schedule changes from week to week and Security personnel is bound to work weekends. Gap Inc. doesn’t specify a starting salary for this position, only noting that the hourly rate is based on experience levels.

Assistant Manager

The Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting the Associate (Head) Manager in all aspects of running the store, including talent sourcing and training.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor traffic and labor to maximize productivity.
  • Contribute to the brand’s marketing and promotional efforts.
  • Source talent and develop effective teams.
  • Maintain compliance with state, federal and Gap Inc. employee regulations.

Requirements
There are three key prerequisites every middle management Gap job application must display. First off, you should have 2-3 years of previous experience in a retail management position. Secondly, you must display keen business acumen skills. And third, you need a Bachelor’s Degree.

Working Hours And Salary Information
Most Gap Inc. brands pay an hourly salary to their Assistant Managers. But, at Banana Republic stores, all management staff works on a contract basis, earning a fixed annual income. Compensation varies depending on brand and employee experience.
Usually, there are 3 or more Assistant Managers employed at any given location. As such they tend to rotate weekend shifts once per three weeks.

Division Merchandise Manager

Working primarily out of a distribution center, the Merchandise Manager oversees product delivery and is responsible for quality control.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement merchandise strategy for an entire division.
  • Identify and act on product opportunities.
  • Source, train and lead the division merchandise team.
  • Participate in annual development trips.
  • Consolidate testing and analytics to improve future outcomes.

Requirements
There are only a handful of Division Merchandise Managers at Gap and, as such, the job is rarely filled from outside of the company. To join Gap Inc. at such a high-level position, you would need to display a highly impressive resume and at least five years of relevant experience.
Past work experience must include management of global merchandising logistics as well as the development of large, multi-national product strategies.

Salary is determined on a case-by-case basis. The Division Manager’s schedule follows regular business hours but they may be required to travel occasionally.
